Community

Here at Queen Street we are at the heart of a thriving community.  We actively encourage community groups to use our facilities to organise meetings and celebrate events.  We are available for parties, groups and clubs and can provide a wide range of facilities to support you.  Whether you want to book for a one off event or to organise a regular meeting, we have a range of rooms and spaces to suit.

We currently work with community partners and host local groups and events such as:

Batucada Dance Studios – Taste the flavour of Ballroom and Latin dances with the extremely talented and friendly Batucada. Held at Queen Street Community Centre on Mondays and Thursdays! Please contact 07907 573 957 for more information.

Burton Albion Community Trust (BACT) – For more than 5 years, Queen Street have been partners with BACT. The supportive and caring staff, are always looking to make a difference to people’s lives around the community.

Burton Speakability Stroke Association – The UK’s leading stroke charity are now supporting people with aphasia and other neurological disorders at our centre! Make new friends, share personal experiences and rebuild self confidence whilst raising the awareness of Aphasia. The groups are ran by and for people with Apahsia,on Thursdays from 9am-12pm at Queen Street.

Bright Beginnings – Volunteer mentors, use our centre as a safe, secure meeting place to help and support vulnerable young parents (17-25 years old) to improve all aspects of their health and their babies health.

Derbyshire Community Bank – Offering low interest loans, saving accounts and even Christmas saving accounts, Derbyshire Community Bank are a financial co-operative, non profit organisation that is owned and operated for the benefit of it’s members, the very people who save and borrow with it. Held on Thursdays 2pm-4pm.

Girls Club – Ran from our main hall by Burton Albion Community Trust (BACT), leader Sophie Cordon and other members of BACT, ensure girls aged 7+ are safe, happy and having fun at the club. They provide lots of activities including: dance, arts and crafts, help with homework, sports and overall support and friendship. Girls Club is on Wednesday from 5pm-6:45pm.

Girls Youth Club – Ran again by Sophie Cordon of Burton Albion Community Trust, Girls Youth Club is a place to go after school, to relax, meet up with friends and get involved in fun activities, whilst being in a safe, secure and supervised environment. Held on Fridays from 4pm-6:30pm.

Pilates – Developed in the 1920’s, Pilates has become a popular, intense core workout which increases flexibility and is great for strengthening and toning your body. At Queen Street, you can now attend Pilates with our friendly instructor Milly. Bring a mat with you and come and join in the fun and get fit at the same time! All ages and abilities are welcome. Places of Welcome – Queen Street Community Centre are proud to have teamed up with Places of Welcome, a national growing network ran by community groups who want to ensure anybody and everybody has a place to go for a chat and cup of tea. Offering friendship, free refreshments, hospitality and local knowledge and the chance to meet new people. Your place of welcome is held here on Fridays from 2pm-3pm.

Satori Martial Arts – Welcoming students from the ages of 4 and above, Satori is a developed unique style that will continue evolving. Committed to every students personal development, come and join Sensei Sam here at Queen Street and learn pad drills, sparring, cardio and self defence. The first lesson is FREE! Socatots – Girls and boys from ages 6 months – 5 years old can participate in the worlds leading football based development activity programme here at Queen Street! Creating a fun, fast paced environment with age appropriate activities, children can develop their coordination skills and parents can also join in. Their mission is to engage more children in physical activities from an early age, using football as the focus. Held here on Saturdays from 9am-10:30am. Sign up today through their website.

Table Tennis – Queen Street are delighted to welcome Richard, who is now hosting and coaching table tennis in the main hall! Low prices, but lots of fun. Just turn up on Fridays from 7:30pm-9:30pm, or for more information, contact Richard on 07411 757 957.

Work Club – Do you need assistance finding employment? Maybe you need help to write an astounding CV? Then we are here to help. Come along to Work Club on Fridays from 1:00pm-3:00pm and let us help you.
